About
In the past, navigating the financial reefs and shoals of American business while maintaining a course to profitability has always required a talented helmsman. A multitalented chief financial officer and / or controller. A visionary with technical ability, communication and management skills, pragmatism, occasional clairvoyance and a certain amount of luck.
That was then, but even with all of these attributes the CFO /Controller of today faced by unprecedented challenges, unparalleled regulation and compliance requirements, and an complex business environment defined by uncertainty and instability cannot be successful without employing all available outside resources while drawing on the endless experience of others. It would be unrealistic – even naïve – to expect one person, or even one organization to traverse this maze without taking advantage of the collective experience of others who have traveled a similar course, and foolhardy to try.
The purpose of this blog is to provide a forum for the exchange of questions, ideas, experience and solutions to problems and challenges faced by the financial executives of public and privately held companies in the world economy today. Just as the successful navigator of a ship uses the experiences and knowledge documented in his charts and maps to avoid hazards, the successful CFO / Controller will utilize every available resource to do the same. The single most effective resource we have in navigating our way through these undefined challenges – gray matters – is the experience and collective minds – the gray matter – of our peers.
Your contribution and participation by writing comments and posts can make this an effective tool for many.
